Applesauce

Yes folks, you read that right.  Today, I’m thankful for applesauce.

For the past month and a half, I have been offering Q. all sorts of lovely, organic vegetable/fruit purees.  Has he eaten any of them?  NO!  In fact, lately he’s become very good at spitting them out at me.  I swear very little to none of these purees have actually made it to his GI tract.  I recently gave up and I’ve been trying a little baby led weaning (with some success–Q. seems to be more of a self feeder than his big brother was).  This morning however, I gave him applesauce for the first time and he actually ate (some of) it!  Do you know how happy this made me?

I realize that for the first 6-9 months, solids are just for fun.  Being about 7.5 months adjusted, Q’s just learning but he sure is taking a very looooong time to get the hang of eating.  It’s a lot more of a frustrating experience this second time around when you’re trying to feed #2 and #1 is getting into all sorts of trouble.  On some days, I feel like saying to Q. “just eat something already” or “time’s up, mealtime is over!”  I’m just hoping that once he hits 9 months adjusted and can manage more finger foods independently, this process will get easier.  In the meantime, he may live on applesauce and breast milk!
