This morning, D. and I bundled the kids up and did a 5K together as a family. It was a bit of a haul as neither D. or I exercise regularly anymore but I’m proud we did this and finished all together. What a moment–as we crossed the finish line, I looked over at E. (who was holding D’s bib) and he was smiling from ear to ear. My aunt M. said that my paternal grandfather talked about “making memories”. Well, crossing that finish line as a family sure felt like we made a memory I’ll never forget.
Today, I feel so very lucky for both D. and I’s health. As I was running, I thought of the future…maybe in the years to come we’ll continue to run as a family? My “boys” will speed ahead and wait for their waddling mama at the finish line. We’ll plan which races we’ll do each year together. I hope that both D. and I can stay healthy (and fit) enough to keep up with our boys and continue to do active things together with them.
For those from the Ottawa area that are interested, we did the Cookie Run. It was a very family friendly race and pretty flat terrain so it’s great for any runner who has to push a double stroller!
